Second Hospital of Guangzhou University of TCM ,Guangzhou510000,China;3.Guangdong Province Traditional Chinese Medical&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align: center;">Hospital,Guangzhou 510000,China)</p><p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Abstract</strong>:&nbsp; “The&nbsp; treament&nbsp; of&nbsp; orofacial&nbsp; diseases&nbsp; by&nbsp; acupuncture&nbsp; at&nbsp; Hegu(L4)”&nbsp; as&nbsp; a&nbsp; conclusion&nbsp; of&nbsp; Chinese medical&nbsp; clinical&nbsp; practice,&nbsp; is&nbsp; a&nbsp; representative&nbsp; of&nbsp; the&nbsp; theory&nbsp; of&nbsp; the&nbsp; selection&nbsp; of&nbsp; acupoints&nbsp; accordingto meridians pathway.Previous studies have shown that a competitive activity-dependent interaction between the orofacial and hand representations of motor cortex has been demonstrated,in which sensory afferents or not play an important role.Hand&nbsp; areas and orofacial areas over the mortor cortex and somatosensory cortex&nbsp; have&nbsp; some&nbsp; functional reorganization&nbsp; in physiologic and pathologic&nbsp; condition.Therefore,based&nbsp; on “the&nbsp; Treament&nbsp; of&nbsp; Orofacial&nbsp; Diseases&nbsp; by&nbsp; Acupuncture&nbsp; at&nbsp; Hegu”,the&nbsp; study&nbsp; of&nbsp; functional&nbsp; reorganization between hand areas and orofacial areas in recent 20 years are reviewed,and discuss&nbsp; the brain plasticity mechanism about “The treament of orofacial diseases by acupuncture at Hegu(L4)”in this paper.</p><p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Key words</strong>: Acupuncture, Hegu, brain plasticity, functional reorganization&nbsp;</p><p><br/></p>
