Effects of Electroacupuncture at Quchi(LI11) and Zusanli(ST36) on motor function and cerebral histopathology of rats cerebral infarction

<p style="text-align: center;">ZHNAG Junchuan, CAO Xiangling, WU Xingui,ZHOU Lifang,LIU Jianwei</p><p><br/></p><p style="text-align: center;">(1Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine,the Fiest Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University, Nanning 530021,China)</p><p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Abstract:</strong><strong> Objective:</strong> To observe the effects of electroacupuncture at Quchi(LI11)&nbsp; and Zusanli(ST36)on&nbsp; motor&nbsp; function&nbsp; and&nbsp; Nissl&nbsp; of&nbsp; cortex&nbsp; neurons&nbsp; in&nbsp; rats&nbsp; with&nbsp; unilateral&nbsp; focal&nbsp; cerebral infarction, and to explore its relationship with the recovery of motor function in rats.Methods: 60 male SD rats were randomly divided into the sham operation group (n=6) and the operation group (n=54).The operation group were under the operation of the right middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) by the modified Longa’&nbsp; &nbsp;methods, and 48 qualified rats were randomly divided into the model group(n=24),and the electroacupuncture group(n=24).All subgroups were sacrificed at 6 rats&nbsp; when&nbsp; 3&nbsp; days,7&nbsp; days,14&nbsp; days,28&nbsp; days&nbsp; after&nbsp; the&nbsp; operation.The&nbsp; electro-acupuncture&nbsp; group received electroacupuncture at Quchi(LI11)and Zusanli(ST36)for&nbsp; 28&nbsp; days.&nbsp; The neurological function and foot error test were examined at 1st , 3st, 7st, 14st, 28st day on all rats and&nbsp; detectedthe&nbsp; changes&nbsp; of&nbsp; the&nbsp; histopathology&nbsp; of&nbsp; injury&nbsp; by&nbsp; hematoxylin-eosin&nbsp; and&nbsp; Nissl staining.Results:Compared&nbsp; with&nbsp; the&nbsp; model&nbsp; group,&nbsp; the&nbsp; neurological&nbsp; deficit&nbsp; score&nbsp; in electroacupuncture&nbsp; groups&nbsp; were&nbsp; no&nbsp; diffiences&nbsp; after&nbsp; 1d&nbsp; and&nbsp; 3d(p&gt;0.05).But&nbsp; both&nbsp; the&nbsp; scores&nbsp; of neurological&nbsp; function&nbsp; and&nbsp; root&nbsp; error&nbsp; test&nbsp; of&nbsp; rats&nbsp; in&nbsp; electroacupuncture&nbsp; groups&nbsp; were lower(p&lt;0.05).Result from HE and nissl&nbsp; observation&nbsp; show that the damage neurons in group the acupuncture&nbsp; are&nbsp; lighter&nbsp; than&nbsp; non-acupuncture&nbsp; group&nbsp; at&nbsp; 3stday,and&nbsp; the&nbsp; nissl&nbsp; bodies&nbsp; begin&nbsp; to increasing&nbsp; at&nbsp; 14stday.there&nbsp; are&nbsp; significantly&nbsp; improve&nbsp; than&nbsp; non-acupuncture&nbsp; group&nbsp; at&nbsp; 3st&nbsp; and 28stday.Conclusion:&nbsp; Electroacupuncture&nbsp; not only&nbsp; increase the number of nissl bodies to protect the&nbsp; damaged&nbsp; nerve&nbsp; cells,&nbsp; but&nbsp; also&nbsp; maintain&nbsp; its&nbsp; steady&nbsp; cells’strusture,&nbsp; thus&nbsp; promoting&nbsp; the&nbsp; focal cerebral infarction, the recovery of motor function of rat.</p><p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Key words</strong>: Electric acupuncture;Li 11;Focal cerebral infarction;Nissl body</p><p><br/></p>
